London-based label Charli is all about sophisticated, timeless style for women – think luxe jersey, cashmere and linen that you’d wear whatever the occasion. Layer up for winter and keep it loose and simple for summer. Sabina Ebrahim, international sales manager and Sangeeta Ebrahim, her mum and the creative director at Charli, caught up with HMTB at a recent event at Jane Davidson boutique to reveal the label’s ethos, key looks and what will be in their suitcase this summer
Who is the Charli London woman?
We strive to make clothes that women feel good in. The media is drastically changing the dialogue about fashion and often dictates what trends we ‘should’ be following. But we pay close attention to making women feel comfortable by combining our understated aesthetic to create clothing that transcends seasons and stereotypes. We target women aged mostly 35+ however typically we see Charli as an ‘ageless’ brand. The Charli woman’s lifestyle mostly circulates around being a multitasker at work and at home.
What are your key pieces for this season and how will you be wearing them?
Sabina: I love the cotton tassel Francisco cardigan because it works with so many different looks on holiday. I’ve just returned from a break in Tuscany, and it was a great cover up for the chilly evenings (I’m usually always cold so I can’t leave the house without a wrap or cardigan). I also love my Travel Wrap (I have it in all three colours) perfect for those plane journeys and cool evenings.
I also love the Gianna Dress, it’s preppy and really elegant on. I wore it to a christening recently and found it so comfortable to wear all day. Usually, when I know I have to be in the same dressed up outfit all day, it has to be comfortable so this dress was perfect and took me through from morning to evening.
Sangeeta: I’ve been wearing my Shea Culottes so much this season. What I love about them is the lightness of the fabric and the satin feel. It doesn’t feel clingy like some crepe fabrics do and I can wear them from day to night (from a flat trainer to a wedge). I also find them really flattering and are a welcome break from wearing skinny jeans. I find that my clients, who were initially quite apprehensive about wearing culottes, are really warming to them now. They’re worth a try if you haven’t already.
My coat of the season has been the Camden Coat because it’s a soft structured unlined coat making it so easy to wear. It’s a great feeling to be able to ditch the winter coat around Easter time but, seeing as we have such unpredictable weather, the Camden is a great all year round item. Great for travelling too, it’s so light and not bulky, and very easy to store away on the plane.
